Name: Fred and Fran Olin
Hometown: Aticama, Nayarit, Mexico
FRED OLIN: I am a retired teacher and administrator from the State of Washington. I have lived part time in Aticama, Nayarit on the very south end of Playa Matanchen for the past 13 years. I got involved very early in the program when one of the scholarship students ran into serious financial difficulty in the middle of his first year at university. I helped him and he later graduated from university with a Level 3 Microsoft Certification. I then became a full sponsor when we recruited Janeth and I fell in love with her grandmother, who helped us select our very first rental house in Tepic. I went to college on a combination of loans, grants, and part time jobs during the school year while working summers at Bethlehem Steel. Helping young people who would not otherwise be able to afford college is very gratifying. I believe that educating the young people of Mexico will make Mexico better for everyone in the future.
FRAN OLIN: I hail from Port Orchard, Washington and reside part time in Aticama, Nayarit on Bahia Matanchen. I am a retired high school teacher and career counselor. I also formerly worked as a facilitator for the program “Ready for Kindergarten” designed for parents and caregivers of children from birth to age 5. While in Port Orchard, I handle the food donations from my church to the local food bank. I am also a server once a month at “Family Kitchen” (meals for anyone who happens to show). My husband, Fred, and I have been life-long supporters of education and have continued efforts to provide a pathway for eligible/motivated students to earn a post-secondary degree. With great pride, we share stories of student successes in the towns surrounding Matanchen Bay, Nayarit and encourage interested others to learn more and donate!
